Children’s Chorus of Sussex County

Founded in 1990, the Children’s Chorus of Sussex County has provided an opportunity for children who reside in the rural northwest of New Jersey, USA to join together in the choral art. In addition to two annual concerts, the chorus performs for numerous community and social events annually. They have performed Carmina Burana with the State College of New Jersey college choir and orchestra and most recently was the invited choir to perform Carmina Burana with the Mid-America Productions at Carnegie Hall. The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County has been the invited choir for concerts at the Tuscany International Children’s Choral Festival, the Prague International Childrens Choral Festival, North American Children’s Choral Concert at Carnegie Hall, Keynote Artists Children’s Choral Festival in Orlando and the National Orff-Schulwerk Association Convention.

 

Deborah A. Mello

Founding director of the Children’s Chorus of Sussex County, Deborah Mello is the recipient of the Master Teacher Award from the New Jersey Music Educators Association, the Governor’s Award for Arts in Education and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Master Teacher Collaborative Award. She also received the Artist-Teacher certificate from the Choral Music Education courses founded by Doreen Rao. In addition to conducting Ms. Mello has presented numerous workshops on such topics as elementary music education and children’s choir repertoire.
