Guangzhou Children's Palace Choir

The Guangzhou Children's Palace was established in 1952 and presently occupies nearly 40 thousand square meters making it the biggest and oldest educational and activities center in China. Approximately 15,000 children take part in various activities such as learning musical instruments, vocal music, dancing, painting, calligraphy, astronomy, airplane models, handicrafts, computer, chess, reading, composition and foreign languages. There are more that 40 different sections and nearly 400 training classes. The Palace has had several visits to other countries where the children are regarded as "Angels of Peace and Friendship" The Palace's educational principles are to enable the children to grow up intellectually and physically well. As an indispensable part of quality education to the children of Guangzhou, it was awarded the honourable title of "Cradle of Talents".

 

Xie Ming Jing

Mr. Xie graduated from Guangzhou Zinghai Music Academy in 1984 and since then has become a noted music educator and children's choir conductor. He has twice received the award 'The excellent music teacher of the country' from the National Education Department in 1997 and 2000. As well as his work at the Palace, he also teaches music in a high school and is a member of the Chinese Choral Association, and a director of the GuangDong Choral Association.

 

Leon Shiu-wai Tong

For twenty years choirs under Mr. Tong's direction, choirs have achieved remarkable results. His unique conducting skill stimulates children's imagination and encourages emotional expression and exquisite, delicate vocal technique. Mr. Tong is often invited by choirs all over the world to be a guest conductor. In 1996 he was invited to be on the Jury for the International Choral Kathaumixw. In 1998 he was chairman of the 1st China International Children's Choir Festival.
