Saskatoon Children’s Choir

The Saskatoon Children’s Choir is a Canadian choir that was founded in 1996. In eight years they have developed a reputation for their musical sound, creative spirit and commitment to artistic excellence. The choir has given concerts not only in its home province of Saskatchewan but also in many other areas of Canada and Europe. In September 2000 the choir committed to supporting the International Campaign to Ban Landmines through concerts, education platforms and signatures. The Saskatoon Children’s Choir was awarded First Place in the Folk Category and the Elmer Iseler Award at the International Choral Kathaumixw in 2000 and first place (Children’s Choir) at the Festival Internacional de Música de Cantonigrós, the Leslie Bell National Award for Choir and the Isabelle Mills Award for outstanding Choral Achievement.

 

Phoebe Voigts

Pheobe Voigts, the founding director of the Saskatoon Children’s Choir, is well respected throughout Saskatchewan as a clinician, instructor and conductor of children’s music. She is the recipient of the Saskatchewan Music Educators award for outstanding achievement and a frequent presenter at music education conferences. Her choirs have been invited to perform on CBC radio, CFQC television, as guest artists of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and for the prime minister of Canada. Ms Voigts received her initial training at Regina’s Luther College and the University of Saskatchewan, pursuing further studies at the universities of Alberta and Manitoba and the Royal College of Church Music in England.
