Scala
Scala is the name of a youth choir set up in 1996 under the impulse of the brothers Steven and Stijn Kolacny. Stijn conducts and Steven is the pianist and project counselor. In 1999 the Choir won the 'Choir of the Year' biennial competition, held by the three Belgian choral federations. In 2000 they won the 48th European Youth Music Festival held in Belgium. Also in that year they did a Christmas tour of Belgium. The last concert was held in the presence of the royal family and broadcast by many TV stations on Christmas Eve. At the beginning of 2001 the choir performed with the Belgian rock group Hooverphonic and in July of that year they were invited to participate in the Hamamatsu World Youth Choir Festival in Japan.
Stijn Kolacny
Stijn Kolacny started his piano studies when he was 8 years old and violin studies a year later and is the winner of several international competitions. He started studying orchestral conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag in the Netherlands with Kenneth Montgomery in 2001. The brothers Steven and Stijn Kolacny have played together as a piano duo and have won several international prizes.
