Coastal Sound Youth Choir ~ Canada

coastalThe Coastal Sound Youth Choir is an auditioned ensemble of 65 singers ranging in age from 14-22. The choir rehearses once a week and is a proud member of the Coastal Sound Family of Choirs. These singers love to connect with and learn from other choirs -they have recently enjoyed workshops and collaborative performances with Corazon Youth Choir (Nelson, B.C), Campbell Collegiate Chamber Choir (Regina, SK) and PRIMA Youth Choir (Victoria BC). As well, the ensemble enjoys being a being a “host choir” for the biennial Coastal Sound International Choral Festival, where hundreds of singers come together from around the world for a week of performance and sharing.  Extremely enthusiastic and very energetic, this close-knit group strives to create meaningful connections between the singers, their repertoire, and each audience. They are very excited to be sharing the stage this season with the world-renowned vocal groups Musica Intima and The Nylons.

Carrie Tennant coastal

A dedicated choral musician at the early stages of her career, Carrie Tennant is known in the choral community for her energetic and creative approach to working with youth. During her time at Maple Ridge Senior Secondary, enrollment in choir more than quadrupled, with some 300 students now in the program. Carrie works hard to foster a sense of leadership and caring in the singers she works with – a philosophy that she believes had a large part in the MRSS Chamber being selected as the National Music Festival top high school choir for the past 2 years. Carrie also performs and records as a member of Vancouver-based indie-pop group the Salteens, who were recently featured on the Nickelodeon show -  “Yo Gabba Gabba”. In 2008 she was the recipient of the BCCF Malcolm McDonald Youth Achievement Award for distinguished service and support of choral music throughout BC. Currently a TOC in Vancouver and North Van, she is also on faculty with Coastal Sound Music Academy, where she directs their 65-voice youth choir. Carrie is known for her innovative programming and imaginative approach to choral performance.
